Abstract

The year 2025 marks the 70th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Afghanistan and China. Twelve years ago, Kabul was one of the first signatories of China’s New Silk Road Initiative. From a European perspective, one of China’s main goals is to secure access to raw material deposits in Afghanistan. Where do bilateral relations between the two countries stand? The lecture will analyze the mutual interests and dependencies between Afghanistan and China, with a particular focus on the period since the Taliban took power in 2021.
