Vita

I studied History, French and Journalism in Hamburg, Yaoundé and Aix-en-Provence. I was Professor of African History at the University of Hamburg between 2002 and 2007, since then Chair of African History at Humboldt University Berlin. Between 2009 and 2023 I directed the Käte Hamburger Collegium “Work and Life Course in Global History” (re:work). I was visiting professor in Paris, Harvard and Stanford and Fellow at the Institut d’Études Avancées in Nantes, the Swedish Collegium in Uppsala and the Institute for Advanced Study in Princeton.
