This is not the 1960s: A Reading on Chinese–Zambian Relations

A Reading on Chinese–Zambian Relations with Mukuka Chipanta, Author of A Casualty of Power (2016).

The collaborative research project “De:link // Re:link: Local perspectives on transregional (dis-)entanglements”, funded by the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF), cordially invites you to an online reading from A Casuality of Power (2016) by and with Zambian author Mukuka Chipanta.

The political crime-fiction novel A Casuality of Power (2016) sheds light on a political system severely damaged by widespread corruption and weak political leadership, and critically interrogates Chinese investment in Zambia, with a particular focus on mining activities in the Zambian Copperbelt. The Zambian case does not appear to be merely the result of an overbearing China, nor does the author portray China exclusively as a perpetrator. Rather, he points out the different roles and responsibilities that ordinary citizens and workers, politicians, and investors have.
